Painting to Preserve the Legacy
Description

🎨 Painting to Preserve the Legacy
Join us at Graffiti Corner on Saturday, November 15th, from 2–5 pm for Painting to Preserve the Legacy—a community painting event supporting the Fairmont Opera House Capital Campaign! Guided by local artist Caroline Porter, participants will create two 4x4-inch mini artworks - one to take home and one to leave with the Fairmont Opera House. The donated pieces will be displayed when the Fairmont Opera House is repaired and reopened, becoming part of its historic legacy. We'll encourage participants to attend the Grand Reopening to find their pieces hung around the Opera House. If you're not sure what to paint on your squares, instructor Caroline Porter will help participants choose their subject and provide step-by-step guides with some of her more popular designs: Starry Night Sky, Misty Forest, Flowers, and more!
To make sure there’s plenty of room to create, the class will be offered in multiple time slots, so don’t wait to register! Enjoy delicious coffee and frozen yogurt for purchase from Graffiti Corner while you paint, and browse the silent auction featuring unique items and experiences. Registration includes all materials and a donation to the Fairmont Opera House. Additional contributions are encouraged as we work together to preserve and restore this historic treasure.
Paint, sip, bid, and leave your mark on history!
Sessions:
Standard Session - $20 ($15 donation to the Fairmont Opera House)
Standard Session + Frame - $100 ($90 donation to the Fairmont Opera House)
Not feeling artistic or can’t make it, but still want to contribute? For $150 ($125 donation to the Fairmont Opera House), you can have local Fairmont Artist, Caroline Porter, create your 4x4-inch piece. Choose from one of the following designs created specifically for this special event by the artist: Colorful Mountains, Starry Nights, Mushroom Forest Floor, or Standing Sunflowers.
In the white space of each piece, the artist will write the last name of the donor, and/or any short phrase you’d like included. In the “Comments for the Artist” Section, please provide a brief statement of what you’d like your piece to mention, the name you’d like stated, or if there are any colors you’d like incorporated to make your artwork more personal. Please see the example below:
"Help Save the Opera House” and “The Porter Family.” Please use blue and purple mountains instead of orange and red. Thank you.
If you'd like to remain anonymous, please comment “anonymous” in the “Comments for the Artist” Section. Each artwork will also receive a frame. Frames are subject to change based on availability, but will still feature a 4x4-inch artwork. Each artwork may differ slightly from the examples as they are all hand-drawn/painted. Paintings may also differ in color to help create diversity among all the artworks (unless color requests are stated in the comment section, the artist will try to accommodate color requests as best as possible).
Artwork Descriptions:

Colorful Mountains: Painted with watercolors, this scene captures brightly colored mountains and a row of pines. The example features orange, red, pink, and purple mountains against a bright blue sky. Other color recommendations are blues/purples or yellow/greens.

Starry Nights: A watercolor and gouache piece that showcases a riveting night sky starting to appear above the horizon. This balanced yet contrasting piece also features dark, colored pine trees in the foreground. The stars are created with white gouache and iridescent watercolors. Another color recommendation is all blue/purple night sky (no yellow/red).

Mushroom Forest Floor: Drawn in ink and painted with watercolors, this whimsical piece features a lively forest floor covered in mushrooms. The example features large Red Toadstools, White Caps, and a Brown Mottlegill. Other color recommendations are orange/peach toadstools, purple/pink toadstools, etc.

Standing Sunflowers: Painted with watercolors and drawn in ink, this delicate artwork symbolizes strength. The example features a handful of sunflowers standing tall against a soft blue sky. Another color recommendation is a sunset-filled sky instead of blue.
